Goals for this Project

 

  • To provide a beautiful ball field that all ball players in the community can enjoy for many years.
  • Develop a detailed Waterfront Field design, detailed costs, and construction Plans.
  • To preserve and enhance one of the most cherished community facilities and traditions in Boyne City.
  • Construct a field that is easy to maintain, resistant to changing weather conditions, and that will last 20+ years with little to no maintenance.
  • Make Boyne City a premier location in the state for youth baseball and softball.
  • New playing surface - artificial turf with natural grass options and combinations.
  • Field designed to accommodate baseball and softball. Would also be able to support outdoor concerts and gatherings.
  • A central building that will include a concession stand, bathrooms, a score booth and storage.
  • New perimeter fences, foul poles, and flagpole. Existing scoreboard will be maintained.
  • Field lights for evening games.
  • Built in bleacher style seating, a batting cage, a bull pen and bricks with donor names on them.
  • "Stadium” style dugouts.
  • Low to no maintenance facility.
  • Historical markers to recognized the founders of Baseball in Boyne city.
  • Brick Construction to match the existing Boyne City Hall and Pavilion.

Al is a resident of Boyne who believes in supporting and enhancing athletic opportunities for youth. He was a coach for the Little League for 20 years including both Baseball and Softball while his 4 children went through Little League. Al is a seasoned veteran as a former Little League Board Member for 15 years. H

Al is a resident of Boyne who believes in supporting and enhancing athletic opportunities for youth. He was a coach for the Little League for 20 years including both Baseball and Softball while his 4 children went through Little League. Al is a seasoned veteran as a former Little League Board Member for 15 years. He has also coached as an assistant High School Varsity Baseball and Softball coach. In addition to coaching Al has been a High School and Youth League Umpire for Baseball and Softball for over 20 years.

John Bush was born and raised in Boyne City. John played many years on the waterfront field as a child. He’s the owner of the Northern Michigan Dogmen Baseball/softball youth organization, Bush-league baseball/softball academy and Up North image wear in Boyne City along with his wife Shelley. He was a recipient of a base

John Bush was born and raised in Boyne City. John played many years on the waterfront field as a child. He’s the owner of the Northern Michigan Dogmen Baseball/softball youth organization, Bush-league baseball/softball academy and Up North image wear in Boyne City along with his wife Shelley. He was a recipient of a baseball scholarship to play at Glen Oaks Jr college and Saginaw Valley State University after graduating high school in Boyne. He believes in promoting the sport for future youth opportunities.

Becky has been involved with the Little League for over 10 years. She is an avid softball and baseball fan and has a coaching business to improve softball players skills. Becky is a former School teacher and is a Director on the Little League Board. She believes in keeping sports activities available for future generations

Dan is a native of Boyne City and has recently moved back after spending 38 years in the Chicago area. Dan inherited his love for Boyne City and sports from his parents – John and Marie Schmittdiel. He grew up playing Little League Baseball on the Waterfront Park. His dad was a active in the Boyne City Little League, a past

He grew up playing Little League Baseball on the Waterfront Park. His dad was a active in the Boyne City Little League, a past President and was among the group who established the Waterfront Field in 1960

April moved to the Boyne City area 9 years ago.  April loves Boyne City as it allows her to raise her family  in a small community oriented town!

April is married to Chris and has 2 boys - that’s how she became involved with Boyne's baseball programs. 

She is also a board member of Boyne City Little league as the uniform manager as well !

Chuck is a former Little League Board Member and Little League coach. Chuck serves the community both from a volunteer role and his job as the Sheriff of Charlevoix County.

Nikki grew up in Boyne City and is a former Little League player herself. She has children in the Little League program and volunteers her time to the Little League and other youth organizations. Nikki is is the current Player Agent on the Little League Board

Travis is a Boyne City native and former Boyne City Little League player.  Travis currently has kids who actively participate in Boyne City Little League.  

Travis is also the umpire manager on the Little League Board. 

He is employed by the City of Boyne City and maintains all fields for the parks and recreation department.
